From the AP:

Concern that global warming could make it more expensive to store and transport wine has caused the Wine Institute to turn to the GOP.  In a letter to the Republican National Committee, the Institute wrote, in part,

“Given these concerns, we are investigating avenues to mitigate adverse effects on our industry.  Our initial research has alerted us to efforts by the Republican Party to save Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid.  We believe that an effort at preservation this complex and this consequential may provide insights that would help in our situation.  We would appreciate any advice that you could provide.  We are amenable to giving credit for any suggestions that prove useful.”

The response from the Republican National Committee read, in part,

“Based on the methods that we have proposed to secure the future of Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid, we would suggest the following approach to saving wine from undue heat exposure.

  1. Open the bottle and pour out the wine.
  2. Urinate into the bottle, and recork it.
  3. Label the bottle as follows: “This Wine Has Been Saved by the Republican Party in the Name of Freedom.
  4. Inflate the price.”

The Wind Institute continues to solicit input from other parties.
