I'm not gonna sugar coat it - answering our campaign emails during the last week of the quarter (when we are primarily fundraising) can be super painful.

However, today I got an email from a fiscal conservative and self-described “Anti-Democrat” who doesn't like our emails (SURPRISE!).

I could've just deleted his email, but instead I responded back that I respected his views, understood his feedback (he elaborated later in the email that he was primarily ticked off that we are anti-Issa too much). I told him I agreed, sent him Doug's platform, and linked to our endorsement page, and then I talked about our desire to represent the working class…

Guess what?! He responded!

“Thanks for the follow-up. That certainly says something right there. You’re right, I’m not a fan of $15 minimum wage and frankly, don’t know what’s best when it comes to healthcare. But there is not going to be a perfect candidate for me … I’m in no man’s land and have been for the last several years.

I’ll consider Colonel Applegate after reviewing the website. By the way, I appreciate Colonel Applegate’s service.”
