There is a big feature in the Washington Post this morning about Rachel Crooks, a woman who says Trump assaulted her in Trump Tower. She’s now running for the State House in Ohio and giving inspiration to millions of women across the country.

Here is her description of the event with Trump — gag warning, it’s gross to imagine.

“He was waiting for the elevator outside our office when I got up the nerve to introduce myself,” she said now, remembering that day when she was 22 years old and Trump was 59. “It’s not like I was trying to upset the apple cart. I don’t know. Maybe I was being naive.”

The hostess shook her head and then reached for Crooks’s hand. “You did absolutely nothing wrong,” she said.

“Thank you,” Crooks said, even though she sometimes still wondered. She reached for her water glass and lifted it up into the air to use as a prop. “He took hold of my hand and held me in place like this,” she said, squeezing the sides of the water glass, shaking it gently from side to side. “He started kissing me on one cheek, then the other cheek. He was talking to me in between kisses, asking where I was from, or if I wanted to be a model. He wouldn’t let go of my hand, and then he went right in and started kissing me on the lips.”

As she describes in the story, the abuse she received from Trump supporters was relentless. It inundated her online, from Facebook and Twitter (which she deleted) to her email and even in person, in her neighborhood. People in her own community smeared her, insulted her, dismissed her. People didn’t believe her.

And now Trump is attacking her. As expected of a coward.

But emails she sent back when it happened confirm her story, and she’s now telling it. Over and over again, as she runs for office in Ohio. To convince people, sure, but also to inspire victims, and show that she will not be defined by the assault, but made stronger by it. That she’ll stand up to bullies, both personal and political, and work for working people — including her relatives and neighbors — the way Trump promised but failed to ever even consider doing.
