More than two-thirds of Americans want Special Counsel Robert Mueller to finish his Russia inquiry before Election Day, according to a new CNN/SSRS poll.
66% say they think he should try to complete his investigation before this November's congressional elections, while just 26% say that shouldn't be his goal.
Republicans are more eager for Mueller to wrap up the inquiry than Democrats, but majorities of voters across all parties support completion before November (72 percent of Republicans, 69 percent of independents, and 57 percent of Democrats). Democrats are also more likely to say Mueller should not necessarily aim to finish before the midterms (34 percent of Democrats, 24 percent of independents, and 23 percent of Republicans).
The vast majority of people, 70 percent, say Donald Trump should testify for the Russia probe. Also interesting is that approval ratings have increased for both Trump and Mueller in terms of how they are handling the probe.
Finally, voters say the Russia probe is a "serious" matter that should be "fully investigated" vs. one that’s simply intended to discredit Trump by 21 points, 58 to 37 percent.
