Republicans don’t want to let their own members think one second longer than necessary before deciding whether to move Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court nomination through the Senate Judiciary Committee. Chairman Chuck Grassley has already scheduled a vote on Kavanaugh for Friday morning at 9:30 AM ET sharp, the day after the panel will hear testimony from both Kavanaugh and his accuser, Dr. Christine Blasey Ford.
Taking the vote that quickly doesn’t give the senators a chance to hear from constituents, read commentary, or perhaps check the polling to get a sense of how the Thursday hearing plays with the American people.
Republicans have also been told to stick around this coming weekend so they can run out the procedural clock in anticipation of managing to take a final floor vote by Tuesday.
