Amazon workers in Europe marked Black Friday with 24-hour strikes and protests of low pay and dangerous working conditions. According to Amazon, 620 German workers were striking, while union representatives said 1,000 workers had walked out; in Spain, the union said 1,600 workers were striking. Workers in Italy and Spain were also planning to join the action coordinated by a group of European unions, and protests including off-shift Amazon workers were held in Great Britain.
British union GMB called out Amazon's safety record, saying ambulances were called to Amazon warehouses six times in the past three years. According to a statement:
“The conditions our members at Amazon are working under are frankly inhuman. They are breaking bones, being knocked unconscious and being taken away in ambulances.
“We're standing up and saying enough is enough, these are people making Amazon its money. People with kids, homes, bills to pay - they're not robots.
European Amazon workers held a previous strike on Prime Day last summer.
