Mitt decided to make an op-ed statement not that all different than prior ones on Trump’s failings as a leader, more likely as a way of introducing himself to the Senate.

One hopes that there will more than some minor whining that will simply give Individual-1 more tweet material and stupid nicknames. More Kayfabe ahead.

A Romney insurgency in the 2020 POTUS primaries among other possible contenders would be recuperative but also divisive for the GOP.

The short-run benefit could be to give any actual impeachment action some legs in the Senate, but the net benefit would serve Democrats taking back power. The more trouble for Trump, the better.

To a great degree, a presidency shapes the public character of the nation. A president should unite us and inspire us to follow “our better angels.” A president should demonstrate the essential qualities of honesty and integrity, and elevate the national discourse with comity and mutual respect. As a nation, we have been blessed with presidents who have called on the greatness of the American spirit. With the nation so divided, resentful and angry, presidential leadership in qualities of character is indispensable. And it is in this province where the incumbent’s shortfall has been most glaring.

It might be simply another replacement for Jeff Flake’s emo-republicanism, only with covert 47% commentary, but could galvanize GOP dissent in the Senate rather than the sad posturing displayed during the Kavanaugh hearings. OTOH, he could be as big a stiff as he was against PBO.

Mitt Romney could stand up to Trump in deeds rather than just words by announcing support for the bill to reopen the government that the Senate approved unanimously last month and that McConnell now refuses to bring back up out of deference to Trump.

Trump should be happy w/Romney op-ed. Sure, itÃ¢ÂÂs a condemnation of TrumpÃ¢ÂÂs leadership style, but itÃ¢ÂÂs also an endorsement of POTUSÃ¢ÂÂ agenda and an indication Romney plans to support it in the Senate. RomneyÃ¢ÂÂs only policy beef? deficits. But he praises tax cut that expanded them.
