As the Republican-generated government shutdown continues forward, various agencies have begun to desperately try to figure out ways to assuage their employees’ fears. The Washington Post reports that the Coast Guard Support Program has published a five-page “tip sheet,” for their more than 8,500-person civilian workforce—6,400 of which are on “indefinite furlough,” with 2,100 working without getting paid. According to the Post, some of the suggestions on the tip sheet include “holding a garage sale, babysitting or serving as a ‘mystery shopper.’”
When the Post inquired about the support program’s tip sheet, the Coast Guard pulled it from their website. I can’t blame them for offering up desperate suggestions during desperate times. These are people, with families, that do more in a single day to serve their country than Donald Trump has done in his greedy and grotesque lifetime.
All told, there are more than 40,000 members of the Coast Guard who are not getting paid because the world’s most corrupt and hateful president wants a wall, and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is a morally impotent tool.
