Rep. Katie Hill used her time to ask some pretty direct and clear questions of Trump’s former personal lawyer, Michael Cohen. And she got some clear and direct answers from him. This exchange sticks out because it mentions Trump’s involvement—during his presidency—in an illegal hush money scheme to silence one of the women with whom he carried on an extra-marital affair. The woman Trump was trying to quiet, Stormy Daniels, whose legal name is Stephanie Clifford, has already said she has proof of payments from Trump, but this exchange in front of the House Oversight Committee shows that Cohen has a lot of black-and-white print evidence of President Trump breaking campaign finance law.
Rep. Hill: Did the president call you to coordinate on public messaging about the payments to Ms. Clifford in or around 2018?
Cohen: Yes.
Rep. Hill: What did the president ask you to say?
Cohen: He was not knowledgable of these reimbursements and he wasn't knowledgable of my actions.
Rep. Hill: He asked you to say that?
Cohen: Yes, ma'am.
Rep. Hill: Great. In addition to the personal check for $35,000 in July 2017, is there additional corroborating evidence that Mr. Trump directly reimbursed you hush money as part of a criminal scheme to violate campaign finance laws?
Cohen: There are 11 checks that I received for the year. The reason why 11 is because, as I stated before, one had two checks.
Rep. Hill: And you have copies of all of those?
Cohen: I can get copies. I would have to go to the bank.
Rep. Hill: So we will be able to get copies of all checks that Mr. Trump provided to you as part of this criminal scheme?
Cohen: It's either from his personal account—as what was demonstrated in the exhibit—or it would come from the Donald J. Trump account, the trust account.
Rep. Hill: Thank you, Mr. Cohen.
Receipts, y’all!
