Campaign Action
When Georgia Rep. Rob Woodall was asked Sunday if he had read the "Mueller report in full," he admitted that he hadn't, and then digressed into an offering in word salad.
"I have not," Woodall told MSNBC's Kasie Hunt, prompting her to ask the obvious: Why not?
"I trusted Robert Mueller," Woodall began, noting that Mueller took "slings and arrows" even as U.S. attorneys vouched for his "great integrity."
"Yeah," Hunt interrupted, "so why not read the report?" Woodall then spun some story about his concerns about putting “the entire power of the Justice Department” behind one thing that can "achieve an agenda" or "drive a message."
As Woodall blathered on without making a single coherent point in sentence form, Hunt interrupted repeatedly, wondering why he wouldn't at least read the part where Mueller laid out nearly a dozen incidents of obstructive acts Trump engaged in.
"Well, he didn't say to Congress, you need to figure that out," Woodall claimed. "Obstruction is not a political issue. Obstruction is a criminal issue."
Hold on second, what? Hunt pointed out that Mueller did say to Congress, "I can't make a decision because I'm not allowed to constitutionally indict a sitting president of the United States. So Congress, over to you."
"That's right," Woodall responded. Oh, so now Mueller did say that, according to Woodall, but he meant that Congress should take up the matter only "if you want to pursue impeachment proceedings, which you can pursue for anything that you choose to pursue it over."
Okay, so Mueller handed it to Congress, which could pursue impeachment for any reason, but you—as a lawmaker who has taken a sworn oath—don't want to review the report from a guy who studied the possibly criminal actions of the most powerful person in the nation for nearly two years? "As a concerned, curious citizen, you weren't interested to read it?" Hunt asked.
"I didn't read the Bill Clinton report either," Woodall offered.
Oh, so complete and utter ignorance has been your campaign slogan for decades. That settles it.
