Mitch McConnell and his team were already getting widespread criticism after his campaign account tweeted a photo from Fancy Farm picnic in Kentucky, the photo was of a Mitch McConnell campaign vehicle and a small mock graveyard in front of it, the tombstones had the names of his opponents, including his current opponent, veteran U.S. Marine fighter pilot Amy McGrath. The photo was sent in the hours immediately following the politically and racially motivated mass murders in El Paso.
But, that wasn’t the only deplorable behavior on display from Team Mitch. Young men wearing “Team Mitch” shirts showed up to that same Fancy Farm political picnic with a cardboard cut-out of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, which they gleefully posed with for a series of photos while chocking and groping the image of AOC.
The photos went viral and caught the attention of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who quickly responded with a question for Mitch McConnell.
The young men also paraded around inside the event, joyfully carrying giant cardboard heads of Brett Kavanaugh, along with one of Neil Gorsuch.
The social media accounts for these young men are all disappearing overnight. Team Mitch is outraged, not at the behavior of these supporters, but at the media attention to it.
In a statement to INSIDER, McConnell's campaign said the teens were not campaign employees and accused liberals and the news media of looking "for every possible way to demonize, stereotype, and publicly castigate every young person who dares to get involved with Republican politics."
UPDATE: As you can see below, Team Mitch is still responding to the growing outrage of the behavior of these young men, saying they are high school students. Others have reported they attend Lexington Christian Academy. Because, of course. Where were the adults at Fancy Farm to tell them this behavior isn’t acceptable?
