Donald Trump’s personal lawyer vowed to head to the Supreme Court after a federal appeals court said—again—that Congress can seek eight years of Trump’s tax records.
There are multiple cases relating to Trump’s taxes, but in this instance, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit refused to have the entire court rehear a case in which a three-judge panel already ruled against Trump. Two of the three D.C. Circuit judges who wanted to rehear the case are not only Trump appointees but were previously Trump administration officials. The court is giving Trump seven days before the decision goes into effect, time to take it to the Supreme Court.
In this case, the House Oversight Committee is asking for records from Trump’s accounting firm. Trump’s lawyers are also asking the Supreme Court to block the Manhattan district attorney from getting Trump’s tax records in a case involving hush money payments in the run-up to the 2016 elections.
