Just days after Sen. Kamala Harris suspended her presidential campaign, the Democrat from California leads a letter to the White House that calls for Donald Trump to fire White House adviser Stephen Miller. This letter refers to a number of emails allegedly sent by Miller and published by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) in November. The White House, of course, attempted to write off the SPLC as a “smear organization,” though it did not deny the authenticity of the emails.

As reported by HuffPost, the letter describes Miller as “unfit to serve in any capacity at the White House, let alone as a senior policy adviser.” The letter states that white supremacy is “what is driving Mr. Miller.”
These white nationalist, anti-immigrant beliefs aren’t just abhorrent on a personal level: Because of Miller’s position in the White House, they’re legitimately dangerous when it comes to shaping policy. The letter doesn’t dance around that reality, either.
The letter states:
“The Muslim ban targeted individuals of color and caused chaos at U.S. airports around the country, wreaking havoc on the lives of countless individuals and families. The family separation policy tore children from their families, resulting in widely reported mistreatment and human rights abuses of immigrants in detention facilities nationwide. The rescission of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) has thrown the lives of hundreds of thousands of DREAMers into chaos and instability.”
Twenty-six other Democratic senators signed the letter, including 2020 hopefuls Sens. Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders, Amy Klobuchar, and Cory Booker. High-profile Democrats including Sens. Edward Markey, Tammy Baldwin, and Sherrod Brown also signed. More than 100 House members signed a separate letter calling for Miller to be fired from the White House. Numerous congressional caucus chairs have also called for Miller to resign, and New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez also created an online petition calling for Miller’s resignation.
