The top lawyer for Joe Biden signaled Wednesday that he is confident in the campaign’s legal position and won't back down if Donald Trump attempts to mount a legal challenge to the ongoing vote count.
Biden attorney Bob Bauer told reporters that there's a reason Trump's lawyers haven't shown up at the Supreme Court yet, as Trump had threatened in his remarks in the wee hours of Wednesday morning. "He will be in for one of the most embarrassing defeats a president has ever suffered," Bauer said.
The campaign remains bullish on its prospects for prevailing in the electoral college. "We knew this was going to go long," Biden said early Wednesday morning, just before 1 AM, adding, "It ain't over until every vote is counted."
But when Trump addressed supporters at the White House around 2 AM he delivered a predictable cloud of angry disinformation, falsely claiming that the election was being stolen from him because he was winning until he wasn't.
"Millions and millions of people voted for us," Trump said in the East Room. "A very sad group of people is trying to disenfranchise that group of people." As in Biden voters are trying to disenfranchise Trump voters. Hell yeah—that's the way it works.
Trump said they had been preparing for a giant celebration and then "all of a sudden it was just called off." Apparently, reality rained all over his personal universe.
"So we'll be going to the Supreme Court," Trump threatened, adding, "We want all voting to stop." Trump will surely be relieved when someone informs him that "all voting" had already stopped by the time of his remarks.
As for Trump's legal threats, the Biden campaign says, we'll see you in court.
