Well, there's a polling open thread, so let's explore the meta issues. Polls drive the narrative and this week it's clear from the talk shows that the narrative is
'Bush has lost, but has Kerry won?'
This is based on several factors, not least of which is the polls. However, a major unstated factor is the Kool Kidz own opinions of the two men. They like Bush personally and dislike Kerry. Broder is the most obvious (on MTP and in print); Matthews and Fineman are only a little less so. The message? "Well, I know the country for some reason seems to have rejected Bush, despite his genuine warmth, but how will they ever accept this guy that we don't like?"
At the same time, a secondary narrative is taking shape. In the NY Times Week in Review, their front page has a trio of articles about after the election. My big issue, of course, is how anyone will govern, but in some ways the more interesting story is what the GOP will do when they lose. The bloodletting with Dems in that position is no surprise, and in fact will happen even with a win. In fact, that's the whole idea.
