We, of course, are Democrats here. And if we are not Democrats, then at the very least we are liberals, Greens, Naderites or Progressives. And yes, I am sure there are even a few disaffected Republicans here and perhaps even some DLC moderates who like Joementum.
So I fully expect, and look forward to, renewed arguments amongst ourselves as to what are agenda should be, what needs to be reformed, what John Kerry is doing wrong ....dare I say it...right. We are Democrats. And like large Irish Catholic families, we shout and scream at each other during bitter arguments. It does mean we are any less of a family.
For the well established regulars here (and by this I do not mean 'length of service' here, you can be a regular newcomer or a regular old guard), I am curious to see who I will be debating with come January 20.
I classify the possible factions in the following manner:
1. The Party Loyalists. This is me. I am a party man. I care not for the bitter squabbles between the DLC and GenF. I see both sides of the argument. I defend the party and I support the Party. All I need is the Party to tell me what to defend. This is not to say I don't have my own opinions. But the Democratic Party comes before anything else.
2. The Kerriacs. I am also in love with Kerry and currently believe he can do no wrong. I like his policies on most everything.
3. The Old Guard Deaniacs. These are people in Maura in VA and Mariscat. They have been here at Daily Kos forever and have been long time supporters of Howard Dean. They are liberal, but mostly Progressive. They support Kerry, and perhaps they even secretly like him, but Dean is the man to whom their heart is beholden.
4. The Naderites. Nuff said.
5. The Progressives. Still don't know what makes a progressive different from a liberal, but I do know that Progressives are different than liberals, and Progressives are not necessarily Deaniacs or Naderites. So they get their own group.
6. The Clintonista Moderates. Not so much liberal. Not so much Moderate.
7. The DLCers. Are their any?
And finally,
8. The Specific Cause Supporters. Whether the cause be electoral and voting reform, labor rights, fair trade, gay marriage, pro-choice, anti-corporate, or what have you, there are a number of people, even among us, who are single issue conscious. And God help John Kerry and the Democrats if they piss them off.
So who are you? I am not trying to be Ashcroft here in identifying my adversary so I can eliminate them. I am trying to identify my fellow Kossacks who plan to stick around so I can debate them. I am trying to encourage continued community, not wreck it. So please, if you don't like this diary because of those concerns, please know that it is not my intention and you can just simply ignore it.
So what say you?
