We all know that the past week has been horrible for Kerry. Bush has unveiled a new,
misleading ad about Kerry's vote on the $87 billion Iraq appropriations bill. And several notable
chickenhawks have accused Kerry of being weak on defense.
Now, Richard Clarke's book and 60 Minutes interview offer Kerry a golden opportunity to fight back against the Bush smear machine.
Kerry needs to make Bush's national security performance before 9/11 a centerpiece of his campaign. Kerry also needs to use these allegations in his campaign ads. I would be interested in seeing your ideas for a hard-hitting ad against Bush.
Here is my idea:
(voice over)For 35 years, from the jungles of Vietnam to the United States Senate, John Kerry has worked to protect the American people.
In fact, several years before September 11th, Senator Kerry even wrote a book warning of the dangers of international terrorism.
Unfortunately, George Bush chose to ignore terrorism, until it was too late.
According to Richard Clarke, George Bush's own terrorism adviser, during the months leading up to September 11, the President was AWOL in the fight against Al-Qaeda.
According to Clarke, Bush quote, "ignored terrorism", and finds Bush's re-election campaign "outrageous".
(Kerry) I'm John Kerry, and I approve this message, because as commander-in-chief, I will never ignore threats to your security.
