I'm playing devils advocate really. I'd like to throw the idea out for discussion. I don't know much about Sadr. There are four things I do know however and they are things that would qualify him as a good choice.
- He is a Shia. (Read: al Qaeda thinks he is a heretic, so they won't get along too well.)
- He hates Saddam. (Read: he won't want to bring the Baathist back)
- Unlike Sistani he doesn't have a good relationship with Iran. (Read: not likely to want to ally with Iran.)
- He has real popular support in the country. (Read: he won't be dependent upon US troops to stay in power)
So to turn the terrorist question on its head, "why do we hate him?"
