Consider the Democratic donkey. He has taken a bit of a bruising lately. The donkey has served the party well for many years. Although he first appeared in 1828 on Andrew Jackson's campaign posters, His thankless career as the symbol for the Democratic party began in the 1870's. (The Repug elephant began as a symbol in the 1860's and was later officially adopted by the party.) Although the donkey has been used by the democrats consistently, it has never actually been officially adopted by the party. A more complete history can be found here:

My modest proposal is to replace this
unofficial symbol. I respectfully submit that the poor tired donkey should be replaced with something, well something a bit more massive. Something with a bit more strength. Something a bit more demanding of respect. I present to you my proposal below, the Democratic Apatosaurus:

Now, there are those who will say that a dinosaur, a creature long dead, would be an unfortunate symbol for a political party, especially one in the current position of the Democrats. I would spin it this way, the dinosaurs ruled the earth for millenia without any real rivals. It was only with the appearance of an asteroid (crashing into the earth), according to current wisdom, that these creatures were wiped out. Obviously, these were formidable creatures.
So I would submit my proposal to you dear Kossacks. What do you think?
