"Vote Kerry" on Checks, Dollars, etc.

Can anyone tell me if this is a crime (i.e. vandalism or multilation of federal property)?

I am here writing out the checks for the month bills and I wrote "Vote Kerry" below the Routing Number. Before I sent it out, I wanted to make sure.

If it is not illegal, then I would suggest everyone start doing it so that when anyone sees it, at least they think about it.
