Okay, GW has a
new ad out today tying the Olympics (predictably) to the outstanding Bush policy of spreading Democracy throughout the world. The ad even shows the Afghanistan and Iraq flags while a woman -- presumably ecstatic about being from a Democratic country -- swims to victory. The fact that Iraq is far from being a Democracy is not really the point here, clearly.
I have to say, I'm pretty surprised about this ad. Is spreading Democracy throughout the world really a priority for the (relatively xenophobic) American public? If you are sitting in Ohio, are you thinking, "Cool. We're spreading Democracy," or are you thinking, "What the hell is going to happen to me in the next four years?"
Maybe I'm wrong and this ad is pushing the right buttons somewhere. After all, the ad also evokes for me Black's fantastic piece on The Daily Show yesterday: "Keep false hope alive! Keep false hope alive!"
