I got some grief today for my posts allegedly reflecting hawkish support for Israel and opposition to the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. I was stumped by it. Aside from the observations being wrong about my posts on the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, I do not grasp how my conviction as to Israel's security has anything to do with what has and is taking place in Iraq or Afghanistan.
If I support Israel's security over an imposed peace, must I support any war declared by the United States?
If I oppose Israeli actions in Gaza and West Bank, must I oppose the war, invasion and occupation of Afghanistan?
If I oppose Israeli actions in Gaza and West Bank, must I oppose the war, invasion and occupation of Iraq?
If I support Israeli actions in Gaza and West Bank, must I support the war, invasion and occupation of Afghanistan?
If I support Israeli actions in Gaza and West Bank, must I support the war, invasion and occupation of Iraq?
If I oppose the conduct of the US in Abu Grahib, must I oppose the war as well?
If I believe that US soldiers had not been given adequate force protection on the ground, adequate equipment in too many instances, and had been deprived of combat benefits when wounded because they did not request it, must I also oppose the Iraq war?
Assume I did not support Bush 41's invasion of Panama, would that make my support of Israeli actions in the Gaza and West Bank inconsistent?
Assume that I supported the Iraq invasion based upon the belief that there were WMDs and a clear and present danger to the security of the United States, but that I would not have supported the invasion if I knew there were no WMD's and no clear and present danger to the security of the United States, how would that have a single thing to do with Israel?
Assume that I was opposed to the invasion and occupation of Iraq for any reason, how would my support of the troops, and criticism of management of the war once there, have a single thing to do with Israel?
I am at a loss to understand the complaint. How about you?
