President Conyers? It Could Happen.

Whilst reading the news that at long last, the DeLay and Cunningham probes have intertwined like rows of falling dominoes, it occurred to me that enough Republican House members (and maybe even a few corrupt DINOs) could be taken out to throw control of the chamber to the Democrats -- BEFORE the first 2006 ballot is cast. (And what with Frist's own problems and the Abramoff connections in the Upper Chamber, the Senate isn't exactly safe for the GOP, either.)

And let's not forget that Fitzgerald has his sights set on the White House's current occupants. What if, shortly after the Democrats regain the House, this happens: Karl Rove, in a desperate bid to avoid a prison betrothal to somebody named "Psycho Sid", dumps like crazy on both Cheney and the Boy-King, causing them both to step down -- or face being hauled off in leg irons?

And what if the Speaker of the House at the time was none other than The Honorable John Conyers, Jr.?

Yeah, the prospect of a President Conyers is unlikely in the extreme. But it's a lot more likely than right-wing fantasies like Valerie Plame's being indicted.

Is it irresponsible to speculate? I say that it is irresponsible not to speculate!

So let's imagine what a Conyers presidency might be like. Put on your visionary caps and enjoy!
