Yesterday, the headline on every news channel I tuned in to was that Bush "took responsibility for leading us into Iraq based on faulty intelligence." My response: So What? This is nothing we didn't already know, so why is he getting all this press for it? The answer? TheRight Wing Agenda is re-claiming the debate, once again on their terms...
"Responsibility" isn't responsibility, folks. The only reason--the ONLY reason he's doing this is to divert focus from the role he played in
misleading us into war based on faulty intelligence. The "responsibility" he took still blames the intelligence
not the administration's obsession with a preemptive attack on Iraq. Democrats seem now far too ready to rest on their laurels. In fact, now is when we most need to fight the propaganda machine that is trying desperately to spin this in a positive light. We can't let them, and we can't be satisfied with this simple concession! They are still "staying the course" but talking a nice talk.
When they change their message, it is a signal that they have been weakened on an issue...So what can/should we do to keep the pressure on?
UPDATE:
Bush has accepted McCain's ban on torture. He formerly threatened to veto it, and Cheyney has been very outspoken against such a ban as well-- This brings us to the poll.
