Edwards won't accept VP if asked

Sen. Edwards was on Face the Nation this morning, and flatly said he would not accept an invitation to run as the Vice Presidential nominee if he doesn't win the nomination himself.  The context was assuming Kerry gets the nod, but Edwards answered that he wouldn't do it no matter who the presidential nominee is.  Is there any good reason for Edwards to categorically rule out a VP run?
