We, the undersigned, hereby declare that we will consider your vote tomorrow on the confirmation of President Bush's nominee to head the Justice Department, Alberto Gonzales, as a statement as to whether you support the principles of human rights and the Geneva Convention, or, in the alternative, as a statement that you disregard America's proud history of promoting human rights and instead desire that America join the terrorists in acting like uncivilized barbarians.

A vote to confirm Alberto Gonzales is a vote supporting torture.

It is a vote condoning Abu Ghraib.

It is a vote condoning Guantanamo Bay.

It is a vote evidencing your desire for America to become like the Terrorists, rather than fighting to defeat them by holding true to our principles.

We strongly encourage you to reject Alberto Gonzales as our nation's next chief law enforcement officer.

It is time we send a message to the world, in concert with the supposed message of President Bush's Second Inaugural Address, that Americans support human rights and freedom, rather than oppression, torture and fear.
