Kennedy, Dems Win Fight in the Senate for Humvee Armor

Hi! It's Crystal from TedKennedy.com and I wanted to come back today and tell you good news from the Senate.

Senator Kennedy led the Democrats in a successful fight to increase funding for our troops to provide them with lifesaving armor and won with a vote of 61 votes to 39.

The Kennedy-Bayh Amendment provides an additional 213 Million dollars on top of the Iraq supplemental to ensure that armored humvee production is high enough to support our troops in Iraq. This amendment will ensure that our soldiers can carry out their missions in Iraq without having to worry if they're unarmored humvee will provide enough protection to get them through their missions and back home.

Earlier today Senator Kennedy explained the impact of this victory:

A quarter of all American deaths in Iraq and Afghanistan have been in
unarmored vehicles. That means more than 400 brave Americans have died because they were sent into the line of fire unprotected. And thousands more have been injured or disabled for life.

It is easy to forget that the things we fight for here at Dailykos and at TedKennedy.com can have such a large impact. Democrats have led this fight and won, we can continue to win if we stick together and fight for what we believe in.

Which means we need to continue to work together to stop the GOP abuse of power in the Senate. Senator Kennedy is dedicated to working with all of you to keep them from changing the rules and placing unqualified judges in the Judiciary including former lobbyist William Myers. We must work together to prevent them from going "nuclear."
