Its wildy ironic that GOP fanatics, esp conservatives, even care at all about the filibuster. $10 says that a large % of conservative folks today who are crying about the 'deal' never even knew what a filibuster was one year ago.
And nobody knew who Terri Shiavo was before she became a big deal.
And nobody really cared if social security was solvent until W started saying it wasn't.
And everybody was pretty sure saddam wasn't involved in 9/11 until W said he was.
And for a short period of time, when the GOP put saddam as mission #1, they succeeded. the created a crisis that they "solved" ...
"mission" "accomplished" [seperate use of quotations are done on purpose there]
These other events, as the Shiavo case so wildly proved, were just bullsh- bars set by the GOP for the GOP to clear. They didn't expect to miss.
The problem is, that the GOP sheep don't have alot of ideas of their own. When the GOP tells them something is important, that's all they know. When it comes to Shiavo, it didn't matter if issues like government intervention in families was happening, or state v. federal govt was at play, the only thing the hyper-conservatives knew was that Terri was important. And she died. That was not good.
Same thing w/the filibuster. It doesn't matter at all to the hyper-conservatives that they definitely placed other hyper-corporate loving conservatives on the bench for life, all they know is that the filibuster being dead is important. And now its still alive. That is not good...
Social security is looking to play out the same way. Three strikes and you're out?
Maybe. As many have been said before, there were no winners in this "deal"...not the dems, not the reps, not McCain, none of them...but there were losers...And the losers are the hyper-conservaties. Not because they lost. Because they think they did. And the GOP has nobody to blame but themselves.
