I want to introduce Kossacks everywhere to a band called State Radio. Those in the Northeast may have heard of them, or the lead singer's previous band, Dispatch.
If you like alternative rock, with a reggae infusion, you will love State Radio. More importantly, you will love their message.
While it's best to hear the songs, here is a taste:
twenty days in a concrete fallout
what live have I to take your own
oh my country, won't you call out
doorbells are ringing with boxes of bones
from another land's war torn corners
to a prison cell in my own
punish me for not taking your orders
but don't look me up for not leavin' my home
As you may be able to tell, it is based on the plight of Staff Sergeant Camilo Mejia Castillo.
Or, my favorite, from "Democracy In Kind,"
war cries rise with every hour that passes
they trampled the voice of the paths thats ceasing us
go ahead and load the magazines
cause them bullets are treasonous
Quiet!
your leader is going to speak now
everyone turn off your mind
Quiet!
your listenin to a raid on the stadiar
a democracy in kind
but a moment is callin
callin us all
as your one time supporters
hang from media walls
and outside the gate
fate is closin in
you can turn us down
but you can't deny the din
They have alot to offer, all of the music is excellent. They quickly have become my new favorite band.
You can download "Camilo" for free from their website, www.stateradio.com. Their new album is called "Us Against The Crown", and is $10 on the band's site, or on iTunes. People in Jersey area, they played a lot during the summer in The Stone Pony; hopefully they'll come back this year.
Support these guys, cause if they get big, so does their message.
