Let me give you a personal reason. When I see Kos writing something that I perceive as anti-woman, I dont say "hey, thats anti-woman" I said, damnit, politics is worthless b/c even people like Kos are not really pro-woman. I bounce right back. But some others might not. As I said before, this shows Kos's leadership flaws.
The ensuing e-fight b/w women's activists and men who think its gone too far [and some women too] might get these folks thinking the left is too pro-women, and we lose these folks.
Again, poor leadership.
How does this play out politically? This is the crux of what I am going to tell you: The Republicans have now occupied the high ground. By placing an ad with partial naked women on the left-wing site, re-inforces the idea that the left are wild, unmoral hedonistic moral-haters
Kos's position--or more broadly the libertarian wing of the dems, dont win us libertarians. And please stop right here if you think this isnt about votes..My diary is about explaing how this affects votes..We dont win libertarians this way, but we do lose MARRIED PEOPLE..with children. ESP WOMEN.
That the left-wing blogger's top guy, Kos, cant square a position on an ad that yeah, is nasty but who really cares, with a position that gets EVEN THIS COMMUNITY, together..how are the dems wider positions gonna win the votes of people that are outside of this blog?
Look, for better or worse the choice of families in america is the republican party...when you read some of the kos defenders, and kos himself, position on this issue, you begin to see why.
"Anything goes" is not a winner in the political world, esp in America. This has always been a problem for liberalism. Draw your line in the sand and stand by it. This ad-fight really sums up the problem with liberalism in America: it does not stand for anything. [except for occasionally what its not, ie kos says that those who oppose him are acting like hyper-right wingers, as if saying as long as he's not a hyper-right winger, he is correct]
Tell me, if this ad is OK, what do you stand for? Where is your line in the sand? Think about answering that question to a middle-class white woman or white man who thinks that the world is coming to molest their kids. Tell them how your position will prevent that from happening.
This is why this pie-thing is getting the response it did. Because it DOES matter. Because families don't like the Democratic party like they used to--and I would put to you that Kos defending that ad is part of the reason why
