And for some reason, it seems more evident for blair than with bush. Maybe its because nobody even slightly left of center really can take bush seriously as a historial leader. Bush is known to be pretty dumb [even if he's not] but blair, as john stewart would say, not so much.
Maybe its the constant media attempt at saying how blair's speeches have "echoes of churchill". How wonderful for blair! This tragedy has provided his an opportunity to show just how much he really is like his hero, the conservative winston churchill. Now he can have that legacy he wanted so bad. Iraq didnt work out so well, but this attack, this attack is getting him back in that higher level of public official. By standing on the shoulders of the dead, he can still hope to get remembered for something, something heroic. Like flying into london after the attacks, and flying out quickly to go back to the G8. What resolve. Its almost like churchill withstanding the blitz, except its not.
Blair is "resolved" that the attacks wouldnt change the way of life in London. Well, it probably wont change the way of life of him or his family, but it surely changed the way of life for the people that died, don't you think?
I know we talk about exploiting tragedy all the time on this board, but exploiting terror has been the hallmark of the 21st century politican. The only ones who seem to be inept at this sort of thing are the democrats. And I get so mad at the democrats for not being more vocal about these things. Maybe I shouldn't.
When terror happens to the public, it is a failure of public policy. Its not the only failure. Its the failure of international relations to soothe disagreement, its the failure of islamic states to produce law abiding citizens, its the failure of modern society for not fully providing the incentives to get men to not become terrorists. And it might even be the failure of nature to not produce pyschopaths in its random selection of genes.
Terror presents a lot of failure. But yet, politicans look down only briefly at the populace suffering these devastations...get their footing squarely set, and rise themselves up on the shoulders of the dead.
Despicable.
