I purposely have waited a few days to see how the reaction would shape up and give me time to step back and look at this as a whole. As I predicted the Bush SSM (Super Spin Machine) is in full gear with limited success. The usual MO, blame the locals, mayor, Governor, anyone but the real people responsible. Five of the seven top FEMA managers are political appointments with little or no emergency background.
The news media again is faltering and failing to assess the blame where it belongs. Accountability and now become "finger pointing".
If it were not for blogs this story would be on page 20 of some obscure newspaper.
The real trouble is that by fighting a war that we cannot find a reason to fight has drained our resources so badly that we are now in debt up to our ears. By appointing non qualified people to important positions the USA as a whole is weaker now than prior to 9/11 even as we spend BILLIONS on that agency. We spend BILLIONS on everything and are told, "50 billion is not that much". ???? We thought FEMA was upgraded and prepared with the massive Homeland Security which is just another BIG governmental bureaucracy that is ineffective. This policy has been in force since Bush was appointed.
Now I wonder how many other agencies are in the same shape. This is one scary example: The top two leaders of the CIA's clandestine service, Steven Kappes and Michael Sulick, resign. The agency has seen several high-level resignations since new chief Porter Goss assumed the post seven weeks ago." Their stated reason was the agency was ineffectual.
It is all just further evidence that this administration has seriously weakened our great country.
