I've been watching CNN for the last hour or two, and I've started recognizing an interesting shift in tone back to the centre (or the centre-right, to be specific).
At the moment, there has been a great deal of discussion as to where the blame should fall, at the same time they are echoing the belief that it is not yet time for criticism. I know I'm speaking to the choir, but aside from the fact that they will drop any real discussion if we stop pressing for it, this is a more immediate concern. Hurricane season has only just started. These incompetents may very well have to deal with another disaster before the year is out.
At least people have stopped spewing out the "blame the locals" defense with complete obedience. They are admitting on certain levels that the federal government did not respond fast enough. They admit that FEMA shares in the blame. They even point out that Michael Brown was a political appointment. They do not, however, at all, remind their viewers that George W. Bush and his cabinet, remained on vacation while the poor people of the American south died by the thousand! As much as the system failed, and as much as I believe that people must be left to deal with the tragedy itself, people can not be allowed to forget this.
All of the criticism that seems to be thrown around on the MSM new stations that I've seen focus primarily on a lack of leadership and coordination. Had the President, the Vice President, and the Secretary of State not remained on vacation during the worst disaster in American history, perhaps all levels of Government might have been more coordinated.
My suggestion is this: all of these shows have email addresses. For my diary tomorrow I'll compile a few of them. If we press this one issue perhaps we can get it back on the news.
p.s. I fid it very interesting watching how a meme is born. The Blame Game, has been adopted by people on all sides of this. Word.
