This year, though, it is doubtful that the midterm elections will significantly alter the Bush administration's way of governing.
and that
Whether by coincidence or not, Bush is also a president who has been doggedly consistent in staying the course, come what may.
This means that aside from investigation and confrontation there is little Congress can do to change the executive branch. A few egregious appointments to the court may be blocked, but that is all.
This election is little more than a warm up for 2008. DailyKos come Thanksgiving will need to change its role from being a Democratic cheer leader to becoming a place to debate and formulate policy and to cheer on the Democratic congress in its role of investigation. This is a far different role than in the past.
In the meantime we must work hard to not raise false expectations in the electorate that a Democratic Congress will fix all that is wrong with the country.
