The Foley Scandal

When the Foley scandal first broke I reveled in the scandal. What could be sweeter? A prominent gay republican representative caught by the party of straight missionary position sex sending pornographic instant messages and soliciting suggestive materials from people who are supposed to learn from him and who are supposed to do his bidding. As if that wasn't juicy enough, he may have written a law that he broke. How delicious?

If that wasn't good enough, then there was the gross mismanagement. Republican representatives and their elected leaders all standing around pointing their fingers saying "my fault? ya must be kidding." No one, including "the buck slides by Hastert" takes any responsibility.

How can any reelect such hypocritical jackasses? This makes "I didn't sleep with that Woman" Clinton look like the Virgin Mary. Surely any republican politician with the slightest sense of integrity would call for the immediate resignation of the entire Republican House leadership, not just from their leadership positions, but from the House of Representatives.

Yes what Foley did was disgusting and he should be censored by the House of Representatives for taking unfair advantage of a young person when he was in a position of power above that young person. But in some respects that is the least of the scandal. The failure of the Republican House Leadership to protect those least powerful in the system speaks to a loss of judgment so severe that these "fat graying white men" should be removed from any position of power within the Federal government.
