In the coming year, I plan to focus on our Democratic control of Congress. Yeah, it is amazing, we won. And now we get to see how things operate under Democratic governance. We get to see our ideas and ideals actually mold themselves into actual bills, then actual law. And then we get to see whether Bush has the balls to veto.
Many of you were not adults the last time Democrats controlled Congress. It was the 1993-1994 Session. And if I recall correctly, Democrats did not do a good job at goverance. There were lots of intraparty squabbles between liberals and conservatives in our own party, and the GOP sat back and watched us destroy ourselves.
I do not want that to happen again.
And it could, simply because we have been out of power so long, and we have been living with an Administration so evil and incompetent, and a Congress so lazy and corrupt, that quite simply there is a lot we want to do and have to right away, and we need to keep track of it.
My nascent idea is to start a diary series project called "For America."
In that, I want to track what we Democrats are doing "for America." I want to keep track of all Democratic legislation, and Republican attempts to block said legislation. This will eventually operate as our own scorecard and report card, so we can face the voters in 2008 with a list of achievement as well as a list of reasons why legislation was not enacted (i.e. Republican obstruction and Presidential veto.)
Further, the idea of this scorecard is also meant to keep our own feet to the fire. No piece of legislation or resolution will be forgotten, as I, along with you fine people, will give it great publicity on Daily Kos.
This is my plan for the next year regardless of whether I am on the Front Page. Yes, no more SYFPH diaries. Just facts. We are governing now, and we have to be responsible and accountable.
So, what do you think?
