I have a bad case of insomnia tonight.. Lot's of thoughts tumbling through me. Peace with justice is what I seek most. PEACE With JUSTICE will allow me rest..
Not an eye for an eye justice, but an Eye for Justice . To aid that eye the light of truth must be shown on the war profiteering, the back room plans for empire, the lies and deceit that took us into Iraq. Cynthia McKinney, ever the contraversary on the front lines, offered a parting message to Congress. On her last day on the floor, she filed articles of impeachment against George W. Bush and others.
While Thomas does not have the text up on the internet yet, an article linked below the fold quotes the major points.
Article I states that President Bush has failed to preserve, protect and defend the constitution. Specifically cited in this article is the charge that Bush has manipulated intelligence and lied to justify war: "George Walker Bush ... in preparing the invasion of Iraq, did withhold intelligence from the Congress, by refusing to provide Congress with the full intelligence picture that he was being given, by redacting information ... and actively manipulating the intelligence on Iraq’s alleged weapons programs by pressuring the Central Intelligence Agency and other intelligence agencies."
This doesn't seem to be big news. But it is to me. I am a person who can not stand WAR. It is horrible and barbaric. Always innocent lives are the greatest casualty.
This article gives tells the story well.
At the heart of the charges contained in McKinney’s articles of impeachment, is the allegation that President Bush has not upheld the oath of presidential office and is guilty of high crimes and misdemeanors.
(my emphasis)
Cynthia McKinney's proposal makes the fact that Bush lied us into war, a war that has destroyed the lives of many people, People.
Do you get it?
For just a moment, don't think of Americans against Iraqis. Think of children. Think of young adults who believe they are defending God and country. Think of parents, husbands, wives, grandparents, grandchildren, friends and neighbors. Think that the people who died, did so for intentional lies that ultimately lined the coffers and secured the power of a very few selfish, greedy people lacking consciences. The lies that took people from all over the world into WAR, created a slaughter house reality.
In my mind the architects of that madness are murderers.
Mckinney recognized the fact that Bush had accomplices:
Article II, "Abuse of office and of executive privilege," states that President Bush has disregarded his oath of office by "obstructing and hindering the work of Congressional investigative bodies and by seeking to expand the scope of the powers of his office." The President has "failed to take responsibility for, investigate or discipline those responsible for an ongoing pattern of negligence, incompetence and malfeasance to the detriment of the American people."
This article continues by indicting Vice President Dick Cheney and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, in their actions to manipulate or "fix" intelligence and mislead the public about Iraq’s weapons programs. Ultimately, this article calls not only for Bush’s impeachment and removal from office but also asks the same actions to be taken against Cheney and Rice.
A comment quoted in the article further down shakes my hopes, if it is true. One of the most recognized champions of Justice on Daily Kos, apparently isn't even going to use subpoena power:
Mike, an advisor to McKinney, mentions, "Conyers was supposed to have investigations. They were chomping at the bit 6 months ago to do subpoenas."
McKinney quietly replies, "Now they say they aren’t even going to issue subpoenas."
Why? What is the reason behind letting Bush and company slither out the door the last two years? How many people will die in that time as they continue to so poorly represent us on the world stage?
I recommend reading the entire article for more details about McKinney's bill.
Impeachment doesn't go far enough. There should be trials and convictions, followed by seizure of wealth and assets of the war profiteers to partially compensate the innocent. Nothing can ever fully compensate the loss of loved ones, but the profits of Halliburton might rebuild some of the infrastructure of destroyed communities. This should be followed by long term incarcerations. Not for revenge, but to keep these people from weilding their influence, buying their favors, and fignaling their way into government.
It's now 4:11 am. I'm going back to bed, though I have to get up at 5:15AM. I hope my dreams are better then last night. I had a nightmare. The only thing I remember is that a black lump was crawling under the skin of my thigh. The sheer horror of that image woke me.
The evil of this adminstration has been under the skin of our body of government too long. It is time to excise it. So the brain of collective body can heal. So we can rest.
