2007 will mean responsibility, not only for me, but responsibility for the horrible failures of the war in Iraq. A majority of Americans see what has happened and now want it to end. Somehow, no matter how difficult it may be, we must get the President to see that. He's losing ground with the American people and soon he'll be all alone. Well, except for McCain. Before the new year started the death toll for Americans in Iraq hit 3000. What a horrible start to the new year and, unfortunately, the start of the next thousand killed, as much as it pains me to say it. That is, unless we stand together and finally end this senseless war.
Here's my list of goals that I think we should accomplish this year:
- At the very least, start withdrawal of troops from Iraq. That's not too much to ask for, is it?
- If the Democratic Congress chooses not to start impeachment trials against the President then they should at least investigate the Bush Administration for impeachable crimes to make the information more accessable to the general public.
- Increase minimum wage. Most, if not all, states have minimum wages set higher than the national minimum wage, so why not just raise the national wage as well. This is almost guaranteed to pass with the new Congress in place (Thursday!).
- As Americans it's our duty to watch the Republicans bitch and moan about their new work schedule ("We have to work how many days a week?!?") and ridicule them for not knowing what real work is like.
and
- Have a safe and wonderful new year. We have some aspect of power now. Not only are Democrats running Congress, but the country has seen what netroots is capable of. And just think, we can now officially say that the election is next year. Hallelujah!
