Cnn.com just had some great breaking news...
President Bush has accepted the resignation of U.N. Ambassador John Bolton when his recess appointment expires, The Associated Press reports.
EDIT: Updated with link see below
Although it was already a foregone conclusion after a certain Rhode Island Republican senator held up his nomination in the lame duck Congress less than a month ago, it is still great to read that this jerk will not be in the UN anymore.
Various opinions rated Bolton at best as decent/good in regards to working with the Security Council and truly awful at diplomacy within the General Assembly.
Who will be the next ambassador to the UN?
It's gonna be one hell of a fight.
UPDATED:
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Unable to win Senate confirmation, U.N. Ambassador John Bolton will step down when his recess appointment expires soon, the White House said Monday.
Bolton's nomination has languished in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee for more than a year, blocked by Democrats and several Republicans.
President Bush gave Bolton the job temporarily in August 2005, while Congress was in recess. But the appointment expires when Congress formally adjourns, no later than early January.
