Greetings dear readers. Since this blog is devoting diaries to tracking the potential for picking up Senate seats in 2006, we may as well be aware of the policies the Senate Candidates are supporting, and take this into consideration when supporting them in assisting the Democrats to take back the Senate in the mid-year elections.
Therefore, it is dismaying to have to report that on the recent Immigration Bill, which would make immigrants of African descent felons, U. S. Senate Candidate Harold Ford, Jr., was the only member of the Congressional Black Caucus to vote in favor of its passage.
We know that Ford is one of the most conservative members of the House of Representatives, and we often laughed at the Republican attempts to paint him as a liberal Democrat, but his vote on the Immigration Bill is no laughing matter, espcially as an African-American representative. Even the other conservative members of the Congressional Black Caucus ran away from voting in favor of this horrid bill. How are you going to make 12 million people in this country felons? Never mind where would you put them in jail. How about watching the American economy go into the toilet if this legislation forces immigrants who are doing the dirty jobs that many of us don't want to do, out of the country?
Apparently, Harold Ford is saying with his vote that he's perfectly fine with voting for racist legislation and he needs to be called on it. You already have his voting record where he was found to vote in favor of passing:
Bankruptcy Bill
Estate Tax Repeal
Voter ID Bill
Authorization Funds for Iraq War
Class Action Reform Bill
Gang Deterrance Bill
He has consistently been on the wrong side of these issues; yet there are many who think he's the best chance of assisting the Democrats in picking up a Senate seat. Given the facts and his voting record, we need to ask ourselves two things:
How badly do we want that particular Senate Seat and;
If elected, based on his voting record, his willingness to do anything to get elected, including lying about his grandmother's ethnicity http://www.blackcommentator.com/...
can we trust him to vote with the Party when it matters or are we looking at another Joe Lieberman or Zell Miller?
