As a person who grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area (Oakland), while Nancy Pelosi was not my representative (my rep, Barbara Lee, is better)I have to say that I've had the opportunity of watching Ms. Pelosi succeed the late Sala Burton, who had succeeded her late husband, Phil, in the same seat.
For the better part of 20 years, Pelosi did liberal and Progressive Democrats proud with her representation. In fact, because her resemblance, physically and politically, was similar to Senator Barbara Boxer, until 2002, both women were often mistaken for one another and quite favorably.
Since Pelosi's now House Minority Leader, good God, can you tell the difference.
And if you don't believe my take on this, read P. J. Carpenter's take here:

Here's a juicy tidbit:
Were I a Democratic congressional candidate I would be running away from Nancy Pelosi as fast as I was running against George W. Bush. Her projection of party timidity and uncertainty was that bad.
I said on another post that if the Democrats were going to succeed in taking back Congress in 2006, their leadership must quit engaging in circular firing squads of, and eating their own. Please send her the message, cause we can't wait for someone to persuade Matt Gonzalez that he should challenge her in the June Primary.
