Michael Kinsley thinks that Rove is missing an important point:
In short, if embryos are human beings with full human rights, fertility clinics are death camps--with a side order of cold-blooded eugenics. No one who truly believes in the humanity of embryos could possibly think otherwise.
Yet no one, certainly no pro-lifers that I know of, is railing against fertility clinics.
If I have an opinion at all on this matter, I have to say that pro-lifers are simply anti-science. This is consistent with almost everything else they believe in: that the sky is blue because God wants it that way, that Terry Schiavo was alert, and that global warming is a hoax.
Best NOT to take the bait that Rove is offering. Do NOT get into a discussion about "when does life begin?" Do NOT debate anyone on the pro's and cons of "embryo farming." You will lose that debate just by accepting the invitation.
Stem-cell research has enormous potential to ease the suffering of tens of thousands of our citizens. We need to move forward in our efforts to improve the lives of all Americans. Stem cell research is an important part of that mission.
