So congress passed yet another abortion restriction, taking further steps to undermine Roe. What's interesting about the current law is it touches on all the elements of true conservativism, or true Republicanism, as they both are the same today.

Conservatism is really about 2 things that are interconnected: punishment and control. You can't have one without the other. Without the ability to control, you wouldnt be able to exact punishment. This new abortion law is a great example. Without the abililty to FORCE a young girl to inform her parents about her pregnancy, you wouldnt be able to beat the sh-- out of her, call her a whore, disgrace her or force her to carry an unwanted child to term. You need to be able to control her to exact those punishments.

Some of you may remember that one of the many bad things about Mr. Justice Alito was that he once ruled that a woman has to inform her husband if she is going to have an abortion. Now, the whole "she is too young to protect herself" argument holds little water. There is no age restriction in Alito's mind. There is no good way to spin this other than that it is about control. If a woman makes her own decisions--esp about her body--how can her body be controlled? It can't. The solution is to take the control for yourself. That's what Alito is taking from a woman and giving to her husband. Then he can exact any time of punishment he wants on her.

Most progressives understand that when conservatives/religious people talk about being "prolife" what they really are is anti-sex. But be careful with that. Its a very specific type of anti-sex. Its anti-sex for women. There a few if any controls that the right fights for that limits any type of sex for men. Further, the right rarely if ever fights for any punishments if men have sex.
The question of sex for the right has to do with control: women will have sex when the right says they should, and if they don't, they will be punished. That goes double for girls.
