Everyone is familiar with the famous poem by Martin Niemoller

First they came...

When the Nazis came for the communists,
I remained silent;
I was not a communist.

When they locked up the social democrats,
I remained silent;
I was not a social democrat.

When they came for the trade unionists,
I did not speak out;
I was not a trade unionist.

When they came for me,
there was no one left to speak out.

I have a new version of this poem for our generation.  The time is now.

First they came for the Muslims
I spoke up
I am an American

When they came for the Mexicans
I spoke up
I am an American

When they attacked the Constitution
We began to organize
We were Americans

When they came for me
We were ready to resist
We were Americans

We won in 2016

The fight has just begun, we will fight this enemy amoung us, and we will win.
