We have been told for a long time that if Barry was still standing at Labor Day, we might have a shot at actually winning.
Barry is Barry Welsh and I am his wife, Sherri. He is running against Mike Pence here in Indiana, and I think he is running quite well.
We went to two big Labor Day events in the two biggest cities in our district. Barry is on Indianapolis TV news and had a great speech.
(Details below)
We were in Anderson, IN for the annual Labor Day event, and all four of the Indianapolis TV stations covered it and I think all four interviewed Barry on camera.
Here is the link to WTHR the NBC affiliate, and it is the on line version of the story that ran on the evening news and we hope runs again at 11.
The story is about Brad Ellsworth and Barry out campaigning on Labor Day. We got calls about this story seconds after it aired! And still are! It was awesome to get 20 seconds of free TV time.
I haven't checked the other Indianapolis websites to see if they have stories or footage yet. I had to call my daughters, and then write this!! But it was a great day.
The second event was in Muncie and Barry spoke in front of hundreds of people gathered for Labor Day, and the reception was great. I don't have a copy of what he said, but I do have a VIDEO link, of a speech Barry gave a week ago.
He had the same passion, and connection with the crowd today, it was awesome!
I keep an eye on ActBlue for Barry, and I wanted to say Thank You for him. We are over $6,000 from online, and have almost 200 donors, and that is pretty good for someone that is not a netroots candidate.
The way Barry speaks, and the way he works a crowd are what make him different, and I mean that in a good way.
People talk about him after they meet him, and they talk to other people about him. He has said since the very first meeting at our dining room table that he needed ten people who knew ten people who knew ten people, who knew ten people, and so on and if he found those first ten, we could do this, we could win.
19 months ago when I first heard Barry say he was going to win, he didn't believe it, and I didn't believe it. He was telling people that we couldn't out fund raise Pence, but we could beat him with people. Now they come up to him, and tell him that we are going to win with people!
Barry says that is the most impressive thing about today, hearing lot's of other people saying to him what he has been saying from the start.
All of the work is coming together. All of the time he has spent is starting to really pay off. Will we win? That is up to the people because we are doing all we can.
If we win, should I go to D.C. or stay here in Indiana? Barry won't think about that, but I feel like I have to start planning so I know what is going to happen if we win. We need to start discussing these things, or am I wrong?
Thanks for reading this diary and it is my view of what it is like inside a campaign. This is not vetted through the campaign and is mine alone.
Love,
Sherri
