I am Sherri Welsh; I am the Congressional Candidates Wife. My husband is
Barry Welsh, Candidate of Indiana's Congressional 6th District.
No one could accuse me of being prolific and creative when it comes to writing. BUT I know what I like and I know what makes me want to write. Whatever the outcome of Barry's political race, I feel like I've gained some, well a lot when I think of it, of what makes life good, all fuzzy and warm. I've been fortunate; I have a roof over my head, clothing on my back and food on the table - a lot more than others.
I am rambling, let me back track to the purpose of my diary - I am a lucky woman. Okay so that's non-inspiring but when I think of it, I really am a lucky woman. I have the necessities of life, I am living, I am breathing (unaided by the way of any other official means of respitory aid) I have close bond and loving relationships with our kids, I have a loving mate and I'm in good health. What I'm getting at is that I'm grateful, very grateful for the blessings I've received in my life. I have had the gift of carrying my children and helping them, in a small way, be successful and happy. I got calls from the girls (far away by the way) ask how the campaign is going, how Barry is doing and they tell me of their experiences of recruiting their friends to seek Barry out, thru his website or thru direct contact to encourage people who may not know who Barry is, to check him out, to see for themselves the way he
talks. I hear him every Sunday in church and I think I take for granted sometimes how fine an orator he really is. He was likened to Williams Jennings Bryant the other day from another Candidate; I admit Barry had to explain to me who Williams Jennings Bryant was (to my dismay). Williams Jennings Bryant, I'm told is the "greatest Orator of American history", I was amazed when the headline came out in the paper stating this.
I think sometimes I want Barry to win more than he does. It's because I see that he would be such an asset to our district, I'm reminded many times over, of what others see in Barry. He's solid, I've watched as he has literally spent a day trying to help a person 30+ miles from us to get the necessities. An example; a woman called us to ask for help, which is never uncommon, but this woman had an 8 month old and her husband just recently left her (unexpectedly) with the rent, utilities, etc. due with no means of travel. Barry spent all day, I know I was home from work sick due to the flu, and where most would give up, he was determined to help her find a solution. The result was that the woman had the necessities and he was able to help reunite her with her estranged parents.
This doesn't happen all the time and we count ourselves fortunate if we find a place for a homeless person to rest for a night, this was the moment I knew my husband really needed to be in Washington. This district, nay the country, would be so better off having people like Barry in office, truly representing the people. We were at a picnic for several 1,000 people and watching when Barry started to speak, people literally walking towards him, all standing and listening. It always amazes me when I see that, it's weird that my husband, the man that I dearly love but cannot pick up a sock off the floor to save his life, affect others the way he does. I've seen the emails and the letters and heard the phone messages and received the phone calls from people all over this country want to talk to him. I see now, despite my misgivings about our carpets not always being vacuumed regularly, that I have a gem of a man here in our home and how lucky a woman I am.
Somehow the mountains of laundry and the ¼ inch thick dust and the lack of home cooked meals fade in the background when I see Barry in action. Life is never dull in the Welsh household and we are very grateful for any goodness that comes our way. Barry isn't wearing Birkenstocks nor is her wearing any hemp clothing, as much as he sounds liberal to some or conservative to others, he's as real as they get. He's been playing the guitar for me to relax me after a 15-hour day, he thinks of the things that I don't and I think that is why we compliment one another. He has a good head on his shoulders, beyond the compassion; he really understands the definition of serving those he represents. Barry identifies with us, we are his family, his responsibility, and can one ask for more for representation? I think not.
In real contrast, Mike Pence the incumbent, just voted against discounts for Prescription drugs for the Military and their families.
My observation is to advise those that are impelled to act, inspired to reach and motivated to achieve, that if you feel strongly about issues or feel strongly to resist, lets focus this energy for a common goal, a common cause, if you will, to make a difference. There are a lot of intelligent people among the voters and whether Barry is in your district or not, there is a lot one can do to help. Volunteer, contribute $$$ or more importantly, vote like you mean it. Yes, I said VOTE like YOU MEAN IT!!!! Vote like your life depends on it, in a way it does, after all every vote in Congress affects you no matter where you live, so VOTE and VOTE LIKE YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT!!!!
This is my personal diary not vetted thru the campaign and I appreciate your time that you take to read my diary.
Thank you!
Love,
Sherri
