In today's edition of the Bangor Daily News, there's an article on page C4 entitled "Brennan eyes House seat if Allen takes on Collins". Interesting article. I had wondered who would step up and try to take Allen's place if he decided to run against Susan Collins for her Senate seat in 2008. I guess I got my answer.
First I want to give a little information about Michael Brennan, a Democrat from Portland who used to be the state Senate majority leader. Brennan has most of the same views as most of us. He wants the war to end ASAP, he wants to fix health care, and he wants education reforms. Now on to Allen.
"Clearly, he's giving it a lot of thought," Brennan said of Allen, with whom he communicated in the days before making his announcement. Brennan expects the incumbent to decide by May or June whether to take on Collins.
Allen's spokesman, Mark Sullivan, said Friday the congressman will consider a Senate bid.
It's pretty much expected that he will run against Collins, but it's nice to finally have a date of when that announcement will take place. As of now, I'd rather see Collins booted out of the Senate more than Snowe, but only because of Snowe's opposition to the troop "surge". Right now we need those Republicans to help work out a plan with the Democrats to do whatever they can to stop the war. Collins, as far as I know, has yet to step up and say that she is against the "surge".
