Since I have been supporting Greg Stumbo for Senate in 2008 and am trying to encourage him to run, I decided to email his exploratory committee and ask how he felt about SCHIP, and McConnell's vote against it. This was his reply:
When I was in the state legislature, I helped create KCHIP - Kentucky's version of the program. I have to say, I honestly can't believe Sen. McConnell voted against the nation's children that way, and any excuse is just that, an excuse. I most certainly would have been for the expansion of the SCHIP program and think it says a lot about our government and leadership when it's more important to give billion dollar tax cuts for corporations and the wealthy than to insure our nation's children.
So there you have it. Not only does Greg Stumbo support the SCHIP program, but helped create the Kentucky version of it. He leaves little doubt that this bill would have been supported by him if he were in the Senate. What I like the most is the last sentence. I think Greg Stumbo would fight for Democratic ideals quite nicely.
That is not the only thing to report on Greg Stumbo today. Yesterday he won a big decision in federal court against Marathon and Speedway Superamerica. A federal court ruled that Attorney General Stumbo could prosecute his price-gouging case in state court. The companies had sought to had the case moved to federal court. Attorney General Stumbo was pleased with the ruling:
Stumbo said he is pleased that the suit will now move ahead in state court. "I’ve said all along that this price gouging suit belongs in state court, and today the federal court has agreed," he stated. "My office will move to hold Big Oil accountable for taking advantage of Americans during a time of national crisis."
Attorney General Stumbo’s suit charges that Marathon and Speedway SuperAmerica violated Kentucky’s price gouging law and Consumer Protection Act during the state of emergency following Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005. Kentucky is the first state in the nation to file suit protecting its citizens against price gouging by a major oil company.

Again I ask you to look at that last sentence. Led by Stumbo Kentucky was the first state to protect its citizens against Big Oil. This is exactly the kind of leadership we need in Washington. Greg Stumbo has shown that he will support our children, and fight against corporate greed that attempts to fleece our citizens. Not only that, he supports upholding the American Constitution, one of the most important things we need from any Senator:

The more we learn about Greg Stumbo, the more I hope all of you will realize as I have that Greg Stumbo is a fighter, and a true Democrat who will put the ordinary working citizens of Kentucky and America first over the special interests and the profits of any corporation or industry. It is time once again that Kentucky had a Senator of his caliber. Please go to his site and encourage him to run as I did, and share your concerns or questions with his committee. He should announce his intentions after the statewide Kentucky elections in November. With enough encouragement, he will run. Please help!!:

With national Democrats rallied around a true Democratic fighter in Kentucky, we will send Mitch McConnell packing, and help clean out our Senate!!
