This is going to be a fairly quick diary, since I am about to start class. New polling from American Research Group finds that 55% of voters believe that George W. Bush has abused his powers in a way that rises to the level of impeachable offenses. 52% of voters believe that the same is true of Vice President Dick Cheney.
Quick-hit analysis below the fold.
A few points of analysis:
- Despite this, only a plurality of Americans are actually CALLING for impeachment. 34% believe Bush should be impeached, while 21% believe that despite the fact that his abuses rise to the level of impeachable offenses, he should not be impeached.
- For Cheney, America is in a bit more of a hanging mood, with 43% of Americans calling for his impeachment.
- 64% believe that the President has abused his power to a real extent, while 70% believe the same of Dick Cheney. Which just shows that somewhere between 30-36% of American voters have their heads squarely up their own asses.
- Unlike some previous polls, the independent voters do not tilt noticeably toward the Democrats. Indeed, on the question of impeaching the president, the Independents (34% support) lie exactly between Republicans (18% support) and Democrats (50% support).
Something to chew on this Tuesday afternoon.....
