There was quite a blogosphere brouhaha started by Markos's post about annoying direct mail resoliciations. And, to be sure, direct mail solicitations are pretty irritating.
But what I find truly amazing is the volume of email solicitations I get in the last week of every quarter. It's astonishing: every candidate sends out many emails in the last week, each trying to outdo the others' attention-getting gimmicks. My personal favorite was an email supposedly sent from the candidate's Blackberry from the House floor between votes explaining how the campaign was "sooooooo close" to its goal.
As a candidate, I didn't really want to be a part of that culture, but of course I need to raise a ton of money for each filing. Read on to see my solution to this dilemma...
Rather than gear up for the frenetic end-of-filing-period email blitz to my supporters, I decided we'd play a little game. We'll pretend this is the last week of the quarter and set an ambitious online fundraising goal; if we meet it, then there will be no more email solicitations from me until 2008.
So here's the goal: we need to raise $5,000 by the end of Monday, November 19. In a subsequent post, I'll say a little bit about where that goal came from. But first, a video about this campaign and fundraising, where you can learn from some of our donors why they're contributing.
I hope you like what you see, and I hope you'll consider making a contribution toward our goal. You'll help our campaign, and you'll cause folks on my email list to breathe a sigh of relief when they're being inundated by every other campaign during the holiday season.
For those who aren't familiar with the campaign, here's our website and this is what georgia10 had to say about us last month.
I'll try to write more diaries in the coming days explaining more about the race, the fund drive, and the kind of campaign this is, but in the meantime, I'd better cut this short. I can't tell you how much I value your help.
